Case Discussion Seminars:

There will be a session of case discussions in the morning and you will be allocated to a group of approx 9 delegates with at least one experienced trained leader from the Institute of Psychosexual Medicine.  This is designed to be suitable for delegates with no previous experience of psychosexual training.  Most benefit is gained if you can consider talkking about a recent clinical case with a psychosexual problem.  Presenting a case is entirely voluntary though you may be invited to comment with your feelings and thoughts about the content as it develops.   This is a confidential arena where professionals share their experiences.

Course speakers:-

Dr Andrew Stainer-Smith – I was full time General Practitioner principal for 22 years and now part-time Civilian Medical Practitioner to the Royal Navy, Stonehouse, Plymouth and freelance Locum GP. For many years I ran a Sexual Problems Clinic at the RD&E Hospital, Exeter and have also previously worked in GP settings in Australia and other countries. I became interested in Psychosexual Medicine in the 1980s, becoming an IPM member in 1989. More recently I became a training group leader.
Dr Jeanette L Le R McGorrigan - I started my psychosexual training as a GP registrar in 1981 and worked as a fulltime GP for 21 years, seeing psychosexual patients in that setting. For the past 12 years I have been working in general forensic medicine and sexual offences medicine. Since 2001 I have also worked for a time in the primary care substance misuse service and as a primary care trust mental health facilitator. From 2009 – 2012 I was the clinical lead for the forensic sexual assault service in South Yorkshire. I have come across patients with psychosexual difficulties in all these different settings. I also see occasional patients referred privately with psychosexual difficulties.
Dr Sally Soodeen - Trained Cardiff Medical School. Speciality doctor in Contraception, Sexual Health and Genitourinary Medicine in Bristol and Bath. Formerly also a General Practitioner in Bristol. Particularly interested in Body-Mind medicine becoming a Member of the IPM in 2011.
Dr Joanne Lee – I worked for 13 years as a GP partner in a practice on the south coast and became increasingly frustrated by the growing outside interference in the work and the pressure to see more people more and more quickly. It was being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 that encouraged me to set off in new directions. Since then I have trained as a life coach and set up LYLAC (live your life after cancer) a social enterprise to help people to move forward in a healthy way after cancer. I have continued to do some GP work and after coming across psychosexual training in 2009 started attending a training group once a week and have carried this on since then. I quickly realised that the IPM way of working would be valuable in all areas of my work. This has proved to be the case.
Mr Richard Pearcy - Consultant Urologist at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth with special interest in erectile dysfunction.
