Gynaecology Simulation Day

Category: Training - Simulation

Date: November 11th 2016 9:00am until 12:00pm

Location: Bristol Medical Simulation centre

Following on from our successful introduction of the Gynae Emergency Simulation (GEMS) Course into the SWOT Training programme last May, we will be running another GEMS course on Friday 11th November 2016.

It will be held in the Bristol Medical Simulation centre and will cover the assessment, recognition and management of the sick Gynae surgical patient. O&G trainees have to manage complex gynaecological patients in the post-operative period or in emergency situations with limited senior input and with limited experience of managing sick surgical patients, so this course will provide trainees with improved skills and confidence to manage such patients, with input from a mixed faculty of senior Gynae Surgeons and Anaesthetists.

The course will be designed with similar principles to the CCrISP course (an established component of general surgical training) and includes lectures, workshops and simulation scenarios on the following topics:

Sepsis

Haemorrhage

Confusion

Shock

Bowel obstruction and ileus

Acute renal failure, fluid management and electrolyte disturbance

ABG interpretation

ECG rhythm recognition

The course was previously very well received and as far as we know is a unique venture in Gynae training in the UK.
