Welcome

The South West School of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has an exciting Regional Teaching Programme run by the TPD (Education and Wellbeing) with the support of the SWOT Education Representatives. It has a combination of face to face, online and hybrid days every year.

The SWOT Education committee meet bimonthly to discuss and update the programme. In addition to the TPD organised days we encourage residents with an interest in Education or a specialist topic to get involved in organising teaching for their peers, via our Regional Training Days and ST1/2 specific training days

Regional Teaching Days

Regional Teaching Days (RTD) in Severn Deanery comprise of five elements:

  • A triennial programme of SWOT Education Committee (TPD (Education) with support from the SWOT Education Committee Representatives) organised days. This programme aims to provide education and learning opportunities that compliment, rather than duplicate, what is available through the RCOG and available online lectures. The triennial programme, in full, maps to the 2024 core curriculum. There are three days each term with nine in total over the academic year. These days are a combination of face to face, online and hybrid. All are free to attend for Resident Doctors . The dates of the days are available with more than 3 months notice and are available to book via the SWOT website. College Tutors are encouraged to facilitate Resident Doctors to attend the days.

  • Four ST1/2 Specific training days, (two identical Obstetrics and two identical Gynaecology days) run by the junior SWOT education representatives per year, with the expectation that every ST1/2 Resident Doctors attends one of each Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the academic year. Contact severnjunioreducation@hotmail.com for more information.

  • RCOG recommended courses for ST1-3. Annually we provide four of the five courses: Basic ultrasound, Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury (OASI), RCOG Operative Birth Simulation Training (ROBuST) and STEP-UP. In addition, we provide a basic laparoscopy course for ST1-2s

  • RTDs conceived and organised by Resident Doctors and / or consultants in South West Deanery. These days change on an annual basis and are often reflective of particular areas of interest for the organisers. They provide Resident Doctors the opportunity to develop their teaching and training experience and interest. The organisers are encouraged to run days at the local PGME or online and are free for Resident Doctors to attend.

  • Events that are run within the region such as the SW Maternal Medicine Network Seminars, Preterm Birth day and Fetal Medicine day are available for Resident Doctors to attend.
